The Shift Forward: New Education Program Launching for 2026–27
Heading into the 2026–27 season, Hockey Canada is launching The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture, a new national learning and development program for coaches and parents/guardians.
The Shift Forward will serve as the new home for education and training across the game, with updated courses designed to better support everyone involved in hockey.
This enhanced program was developed through extensive consultation with stakeholders across Hockey Canada-sanctioned programs. The goal is to strengthen how education supports participants and to help address unhealthy behaviours in the game.
Feedback from the national Training Needs Analysis highlighted the need for education that is:
Age-appropriate
Modern and engaging
Relevant to how participants experience the game
Progressive throughout each stage of a player’s journey
The Shift Forward reflects this direction, with content designed to positively influence hockey culture both on and off the ice.
As a member of Hockey Alberta, Hockey Edmonton will continue to recognize Respect in Sport certifications until their current expiry dates.
This evolution represents an important step toward a healthier, more positive hockey environment for all participants.
Courses are now open for registration.
